100mm x 200mm x 2.4m Planed Oak Railway Sleepers are a premium landscaping timber, hand selected and machined in-house by Nottage Timber Merchants to deliver exceptional quality, consistency, and appearance. These sleepers are planed square edge (PSE) to achieve clean lines and uniform dimensions, making them ideal for projects where finish and accuracy matter.

Each oak sleeper is carefully chosen before planing, ensuring only high-quality material is used. Please note that the dimensions listed are nominal sizes, and due to the planing process, a 5–10% reduction in finished size should be expected. Where precise sizing is critical, our team is happy to advise or assist to ensure the best possible outcome.

Oak railway sleepers offer significant advantages over softwood alternatives, particularly in longevity and natural durability. As a hardwood, oak performs exceptionally well in outdoor environments without the need for chemical treatment. These sleepers are supplied untreated, making them an excellent choice for organic gardens, food-growing areas, and landscaping projects where preservatives are not desired.

Due to the density of oak, these sleepers are heavy and robust, requiring more effort to cut or drill compared to softwood. For ease of installation, we recommend designs that minimise fixings, such as stacked raised beds, retaining features, and borders.
