Interior Wall Panelling for Homes and Commercial Spaces
Tongue and Groove and Cladding Profiles for Walls
Tongue and groove boarding is one of the most popular choices for interior wall panelling because the interlocking profiles produce a neat, gap-free finish that is straightforward to install. Boards can be fixed vertically for a traditional look or horizontally for a more contemporary result. Shiplap cladding used internally gives a similar horizontal boarding effect with a slightly more defined shadow line between each board. Both profiles work well in living rooms, bedrooms and hallways, and can be finished with primer and paint for a sharp modern look or left with a clear finish to show the natural timber grain.
MDF Panel Mouldings for Modern Wall Panelling Designs
MDF panel mouldings are the go-to material for creating geometric wall panelling patterns: the grid-style rectangles and squares seen widely in contemporary interiors. Thin MDF strips are fixed to a flat wall surface or MDF backing to create the raised panel effect, then filled, primed and painted for a seamless finish that looks as though it is built in. This style of panelling suits modern homes with painted interiors and has grown significantly in popularity in recent years. MDF profiles are easy to cut cleanly with a mitre saw, making them ideal for this type of joinery finish. Our cover mouldings and panel mouldings are well suited to this application.
Before ordering, measure your wall area carefully and account for any doors, windows or sockets. For tongue and groove installations, calculate the number of boards needed based on your wall width divided by the board face width — not the overall width including the tongue. Add 10 to 15 per cent for waste and cutting. For MDF panel moulding designs, sketch your layout first to get the rectangle proportions right before cutting any moulding. A consistent border margin and equal spacing between panels gives the cleanest result. Use a spirit level throughout and fix boards or mouldings to a plumb vertical reference line to avoid a drifting installation.
