Local Timber Deliveries

🚚 Local Timber Delivery Across South Wales

We deliver timber using our own Nottage Timber Merchants delivery vehicles, giving you a reliable, flexible service with clear communication from order to doorstep.

Our delivery routes regularly cover most SA, CF and NP postcodes, with areas planned weekly to keep delivery costs competitive while maintaining a dependable service.

Most products on our website are available for local delivery, unless clearly stated otherwise on the product page.

πŸ“ Delivery Area & Planning

To help us plan your delivery efficiently, please provide the following information when placing your order:

🧭 Accurate Delivery Address
A complete address including house name or number and postcode helps us plan routes accurately. Missing details can lead to delays or missed delivery slots.

πŸ“ž Delivery Contact Number
A mobile number is preferred so the driver can contact you on approach. This does not need to match the billing contact if someone else is receiving the delivery.

🚧 Access & Delivery Instructions
Please tell us about narrow roads, restricted access, low bridges, gated entrances, or anything else that may affect delivery.
If we know in advance, we can often arrange a smaller vehicle where appropriate.

πŸ“ What3Words (Optional)
Some addresses β€” particularly rural or new-build locations β€” can be difficult to locate using sat nav alone. If you’ve had delivery issues in the past, adding a What3Words location is extremely helpful.

πŸš› Our Vehicles & Unloading

πŸͺ΅ Our Delivery Fleet
We operate a mix of dropside and box lorries. We do not use crane or HIAB vehicles.

πŸ‘· Manual Unloading
All deliveries are unloaded manually by the driver (and driver’s mate where required).

πŸ™Œ No Assistance Required
Home delivery customers are not required to assist with unloading, unless agreed in advance before delivery.

πŸ“¦ Loose Deliveries
Orders are typically delivered loose rather than palletised.

🏠 Curbside Delivery Explained

All deliveries are made on a curbside-only basis.

This means:

  • Goods are delivered to the nearest safe and publicly accessible location

  • Drivers cannot enter buildings or cross property thresholds

  • Where safe and appropriate, drivers may place goods on a driveway or external area at their discretion

For health and safety reasons, drivers cannot carry goods through homes, garages or internal spaces.

⏱ Delivery Days & Scheduling

πŸ—“ Planned Weekly Routes
Delivery days are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. As orders are placed, areas are grouped into delivery routes.

Some areas are covered multiple times per week, while quieter areas may have one scheduled delivery day. We aim to cover all areas at least once per week.

This approach:

  • Keeps vehicles full

  • Reduces unnecessary mileage

  • Helps keep delivery charges among the most competitive locally

For estimated delivery timing, please see our Delivery Timeframes page.

πŸ“² Delivery Notifications

πŸ“© Advance Notification
We usually send a text message the day before delivery to confirm your order is scheduled for the following day.

πŸ“ž Driver Call on Approach
Drivers will typically call when they are on their way, usually around 30 minutes before arrival.

If you require additional notice, please let us know in advance and we will do our best to accommodate.

Incorrect or missing phone numbers may result in limited notice or a surprise delivery.

πŸ•’ Time Slots

⏰ AM / PM Requests
We cannot guarantee specific AM or PM delivery slots.

While we always try to plan routes around customer requests, delivery times depend on:

  • Traffic conditions

  • Access at previous drops

  • Unloading times

At present, we do not routinely notify customers whether their delivery is scheduled for AM or PM, although this is something we are working to improve.

🚧 Access, Parking & Additional Charges

πŸš— Parking & Site Charges
If there are any known charges or requirements for unloading β€” such as parking fees, permits, or managed sites β€” these must be communicated in advance.

Any unloading or parking charges are the responsibility of the customer.

If a driver arrives and an unexpected charge applies, this must be paid by the customer.
If the charge is not covered, the delivery will be deemed refused.

❌ Missed, Refused or Rescheduled Deliveries

🏑 Do I Need to Be Home?
You do not need to be present if there is a safe place to leave the goods.

⏳ Allocated Delivery Time
Drivers are allocated a limited time per delivery, usually allowing for waiting, inspection and paperwork.

If there is nowhere safe to leave the goods and no one is available to accept delivery:

  • We may attempt delivery later the same day if the route allows

  • Otherwise, the delivery will return to the yard and be moved to the back of the delivery queue

Re-attempted deliveries will be scheduled on the next available delivery day for your area and may delay delivery by up to 10 working days.

πŸ” Inspection & Risk Transfer

πŸ”Ž Check Your Delivery Immediately
Please inspect all goods on delivery for damage, defects or missing items.

⚠ Risk Transfer
Responsibility for the goods transfers to the customer once unloading from the vehicle is complete.

For full guidance, please refer to our Missing & Damaged Goods page.

⚠ Important – Trades & Installation

πŸ›  Do Not Book Trades in Advance

Please do not book carpenters, builders, fitters or installers until your delivery has arrived and been checked.

Delivery dates are estimates only and may be affected by:

  • Weather conditions

  • Traffic or roadworks

  • Vehicle or safety issues

We cannot accept liability for costs incurred due to delivery delays, including cancelled labour or rebooking charges.

🌦 Delays Outside Our Control

While we always aim to deliver on time, delays may occur due to factors outside our control, including:

  • Severe weather

  • Road closures or traffic incidents

  • Access or safety concerns

If a delay is likely, a member of our team will contact you as soon as possible.
