Timber Beading and Wood Mouldings for Interior Joinery
Pine Beading Profiles for Every Application
Timber beading covers a wide range of small moulded profiles used throughout interior joinery to finish, conceal or decorate. Quadrant and scotia beadings are the most common, used to cover the gap between skirting boards and floors or between wall panels and ceilings. Glass bead holds glazing panels in place within frames. Cover moulding conceals joints and fixings. Panel moulding adds raised decorative detail to flat surfaces. All our beadings are produced in pine with a planed finish and are ready to cut to length, prime and paint or apply a clear wood finish.
Using Timber Mouldings in Flooring and Glazing
In flooring installations, timber beading plays a practical role in finishing edges and covering expansion gaps. Quadrant beading is commonly pinned along the base of skirting boards to hide the gap left for floor movement in solid and engineered wood floor installations. Scotia beading performs a similar function with a slightly different profile. For windows and glazed doors, glass and window beading holds panes in place within the rebated frame, providing a neat finish on the interior face. Choosing the correct profile for the frame rebate size is important, so check dimensions carefully before ordering.
Timber beading is straightforward to work with. Most profiles can be cut with a fine-toothed hand saw or mitre saw and fixed using a pin nailer, panel pins or a suitable wood adhesive. For internal corners, cut a neat 45-degree mitre for a clean joint. On longer runs, use a scarf joint at an inconspicuous point rather than a straight butt joint, which tends to show more as timber moves with humidity changes. Prime bare timber before painting, paying close attention to the end grain, and use a flexible decorator's caulk to fill any small gaps at wall junctions.
