Loglap vs Shiplap: Choosing the Right Cladding Profile
Loglap and shiplap are both external horizontal cladding profiles that overlap to shed water, but they differ in face profile. Loglap cladding is fixed horizontally to a timber frame or battens, starting at the bottom and working upwards so each board overlaps the one below. Fix through the face of each board into the batten behind, leaving a small gap at cut ends to allow for movement. The treated boards can be painted, stained or left to weather naturally. If painting or staining, apply a suitable exterior product once the boards are fixed and ensure all cut ends are treated with an end grain preservative.
