47mm x 100mm (4 x 2) Sawn Kiln Dried & Regularised C24 Graded Timber is a high-strength structural carcassing timber designed for construction projects where reliable load performance and consistency are essential. Strength graded to C24, this timber offers superior structural performance compared to standard C16 and CLS timber.

C24 carcassing timber is kiln dried to 20% moisture content or less, improving straightness, stability, and overall performance in line with UK building regulations. Stress grading is carried out either at source to BS 4978 or visually by qualified stress graders, ensuring known and dependable structural strength.

This timber is regularised, meaning it has been planed all round for consistent sizing and easier installation. Regularised timber typically finishes 2mm off nominal thickness and 5mm off nominal width, with eased (rounded) corners for safer handling. A nominal 47mm x 100mm section finishes at approximately 45mm x 95mm.

Typical uses for 47mm x 100mm (4 x 2) C24 timber include:

  • Internal stud walls and partition framing

  • Floor joists for shorter spans (subject to structural design)

  • Roof rafters and ceiling joists

  • Decking subframes and supporting structures

  • General structural framing where extra strength over CLS is required

This size is one of the most commonly used structural timbers in UK construction, offering an excellent balance of strength, versatility, and ease of use.

Although timber sizes are listed in metric to comply with UK retail standards, imperial equivalents are shown for ease of identification. Always use metric measurements when setting out and installing.

How does 4 x 2 C24 compare to C16 or CLS timber?

  • Most CLS timber in the UK is graded at C16

  • C16 and C24 are the most common strength-graded timbers

  • C24 is graded to a higher standard than C16

  • C24 timber comes from slower-grown timber with a tighter grain

  • C24 is approximately 50% stronger than C16

  • Better suited to longer spans and heavier loads than CLS or C16
