125mm Sawn & Pressure Treated (Tanalised) Feather Edge Boards are a popular and reliable choice for building traditional timber fencing, garden boundaries, and outdoor screening. Commonly used across the UK for closeboard fencing, these pressure treated feather edge boards are designed to help resist rot and decay, making them suitable for long-lasting external use when installed correctly.
Manufactured with a sawn finish, these feather edge fencing boards provide a strong, traditional appearance and are ready for painting, staining, or finishing to suit your garden or property. When used with fencing posts, arris rails, and gravel boards, they create a solid and attractive closeboard fence that offers both privacy and durability. In many cases, feather edge fencing can be installed without replacing existing posts, making it a flexible and cost-effective fencing solution.
These 125mm feather edge boards can be installed either vertically or horizontally, depending on the application. Vertical installation is most common for fencing, while horizontal installation is often used for sheds, outbuildings, garden buildings, and storage structures. The method of installation does not affect the expected performance of the boards.
For best results, a minimum overlap of 25mm is recommended when installing feather edge fencing boards. This allows for natural expansion and contraction of the timber and helps prevent gaps appearing during drier weather. At this overlap, you can expect a coverage rate of approximately 10 feather edge boards per metre.
All cut ends should be sealed with a suitable wood preservative to maintain the effectiveness of the pressure treatment. Fixings should be suitable for external use, with nails being the most common choice. A minimum 50mm externally rated ring shank nail is recommended to provide a secure and long-lasting fixing.
Once installed, feather edge boards can be painted or stained to add further protection from the elements and to match existing fencing, garden furniture, or outdoor structures.
