MDF Skirting Boards
Our MDF skirting comes white primed, ready for a top coat. It is stable, easy to cut and the best value for painted skirting. Heights run from 18mm x 68mm (3 inch) up to 18mm x 219mm (9 inch) in torus and ogee.
Redwood and Oak Skirting Boards
Redwood is solid softwood that takes paint or stain. American white oak is a hardwood with a strong grain, usually oiled or clear coated. Both are sold by nominal size: our redwood finishes 5mm under, so 150mm nominal is 145mm finished. For tall period skirting there is also a 25mm x 225mm redwood double sunk board.
Matching Architrave
Every skirting profile here is also sold as architrave, so doors and walls can match. See our architrave range for door sizes, and door linings and frames. For help picking a height, read our skirting board height guide.
Skirting Board FAQs
What skirting board profiles do you stock?
Seven profiles, each in white primed MDF, redwood and American white oak: torus, ogee, ovolo, pencil round, square edge, chamfered and rounded, and grooved. We also stock a 25mm x 225mm redwood double sunk board for period homes.
What height skirting board is standard in the UK?
145mm is the most common height and suits a standard 2.4m ceiling. Taller rooms suit 170mm to 220mm. We stock 144mm (6 inch) MDF, 150mm nominal redwood (145mm finished) and 150mm nominal oak, with taller options up to 219mm in MDF and 225mm in redwood.
Should I choose MDF, redwood or oak skirting?
MDF is the cheapest, from £8.25 for a 4.4m length, and comes white primed ready to paint. Redwood is solid softwood for paint or stain, from £14.12 for 4.2m. American white oak is a hardwood for an oiled or clear finish, from £25 for 2.4m or £37.50 for 3.6m. MDF can swell if it gets wet, so seal cut ends in kitchens and bathrooms.
How much skirting board do I need?
Add up the length of each wall, take off door openings, add 10% for mitres and offcuts, then divide by the board length. A 4m x 3.5m room with one door needs about 15.5m, which is 4 lengths of 4.4m MDF or 4 lengths of 4.2m redwood. Send us your room sizes on 01656 745959 and we will work it out.
