A solid oak mantel beam for fireplaces, wood burners and log burners. Each oak fireplace beam is crafted from carefully selected solid European green oak, chosen for its natural grain, strength and character.

The rustic grade means natural features like knots and shakes are part of the character. Every piece is checked by Nottage Timber Merchants and confirmed fit for use as a mantel before it leaves us. Each beam is individually machined, sanded and finished in our own workshop, so you get a mantelpiece that becomes the focal point of the fireplace.

Sizes: 150mm or 200mm wide, in 1.2m, 1.5m or 1.8m lengths, all 100mm deep. Sizes are nominal - the finished, planed measurement is shown in brackets on each option, so a 150mm beam measures 145mm and the 100mm depth works out at 90mm once machined.

Finishes: Dark Oak, Medium Oak, Natural, or Unfinished if you’d rather oil or wax it yourself.

Questions & Answers

Can I fit an oak beam above a wood burner or log burner?
Yes - an oak mantel beam is a popular finish above a stove or open fire. Oak is combustible, so there needs to be a minimum safe gap between the beam and the top of the appliance. That distance depends on your specific stove, so check the manufacturer’s clearance-to-combustibles figure or ask your HETAS installer before fitting.

What size oak mantel beam do I need?
Measure your fireplace opening or chimney breast and add an overhang each side - most people go 150-300mm wider than the opening. We make 1.2m, 1.5m and 1.8m lengths in 150mm and 200mm widths. If you’re between sizes, go up.

Are the sizes nominal or finished?
The headline size is nominal (the sawn size). The finished, planed size is in brackets on each option - 150mm measures 145mm, 200mm measures 190mm, and the 100mm depth finishes at 90mm.

What’s the difference between the finishes?
Dark Oak, Medium Oak and Natural are pre-finished shades, ready to fit. Unfinished is raw oak - pick this if you want to oil, wax or stain it yourself.

Is it real solid oak?
Yes - solid European green oak cut from one piece, not veneered or oak-effect. Because it’s green (fresh) oak, expect natural grain, colour variation, the odd knot and some movement or fine surface cracks as it settles. That’s normal and part of the character.
